Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Holsworthy, Devon

Tesco submitted a planning application in March 2012 for a 15,000 sq ft (1,394 sq m) store on the site of the current livestock market. In August 2012 Torridge District Council approved the application.

In June 2011 Torridge District Council's community resources committee decided to sell the land at the current livestock market. The Council wants to use money raised from the sale of the land towards a new agribusiness centre and livestock market just north of the town.
