Campaigning to curb supermarket power

Tavistock, Devon

Tavistock is a very attractive, vibrant market town with two medium sized supermarkets and several specialist food stores in the town and a Morrison's supermarket outside the town centre.

In 2007 Sainsbury's proposed a huge development with petrol station on a site adjacent to Morrison's which had already been earmarked by the Council for non-retail purposes. Residents, local traders and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce formed the Brook Campaign to oppose what they feel is a totally inappropriate development.
